Gday Mates
Mel has arrived safely in Adelaide after spending a few days in Singapore. Sounds like she had a great time in Singapore with lots of sightseeing and Singapore Slings in the Long Bar at Raffles.
The day she arrived Linda, Eric, Gary & children took Mel to see the Aussie rules football. The 2 local teams Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power were playing. As for all footy matches, it was cold and wet. Poor Mel was jet lagged but seems to have enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I missed the fun cos I was working.
Gary & Mel headed off to the hills on Tuesday for a wine tasting tour. We were going to head off down to McLaren Vale for a cheese & wine tour on Wednesday too but Annie had a relapse & was sent home sick from school within 5 minutes of being dropped off! Annie & Lucy then had a pupil free day on Thursday so they all went to Monarto Zoo. Monarto is a bit like a safari park but you get driven around in a bus.
Last night we had our neighbours Sally, Graham & Lucy over for a fondue. Amazingly, I held it together this time & managed to serve starters, fondue, dessert, do the forfeits and let our guests out of the house before I went to bed. We had a really fun night with lots of good company and good wine (yes more). The biggest challenge in all this was buying a fondue pot!
Today we went to Port Adelaide which was really interesting. We went on a dolphin cruise & saw loads of dolphins. We also went to the seahorse farm where we stroked a shark , saw seahorses and a leafy seadragon (have a look online if you haven't seen one - they are weird!). Then we went to the Maritime Museum where Annie & Lucy discovered that Massons and Blanchs had emigrated to Adelaide in the 19th century. Amazing!
Mel's crashed out - must be too much excitement!!
Hope all is well back home. Thanks Lorna for sending us the photo - I opened your email at work & nearly blubbed. It was lovely to see you all having a drunken time - just sad that we hadn't been with you. Anyway we raise a glass to you all back home. Take care
Lots of love
Geraldine xx

Raise a glass to us all - sounds like you are doing a lot of that anyway!!!!! Glad to hear you made it to the end of the fondue night this time without abandoning your guests.
ReplyDeleteHope Annie is better now. Have a great time with Mel.
Love Bev xx
Glad to hear that thetravellers are all well and kicking. Sounds like you are doing a good in-depth study of the Ozy wines so I'll expect that you will get a load shipped over to here (either chez-vous our chez-nous, don't mind which!) what is Annablles problem? Hope she hasn't got a dicky tummy with the change of climate and water. By the way MY grand-daughter's name is Annabelle & not Annie!
ReplyDeleteAnyway hope she is feeling better now and able to enjoy life over there.
Give our love to Melanie and I'm sure she will be more than willing to help in your quest for the 'ultimate Australian wine'. I look forward to talking to her when she gets back to get her reactions first hand.
How's work going??? Hope you don't find it tedious and can regard your time there as a chance to re-charge your batteries ready for when you get back to the real world.
Love to Linda & Eric and Gary of course( that guy who keeps throwing that ball through the hoop. And to Annabelle and Lucy who will have to write a book when they come back to tell us all their adventures.
Miss talking to you and may find the right time to give you a call.
Take care and don't try riding them there kangaroos..
I did send this to you by email but not sure you got it so apologies if this is the 2nd time.
ReplyDeleteHave to ask - is there any wine left in Aus
Well it’s been a long time since we spoke and quite a few things have happened.
I have sent you a couple of emails from work but I don’t think they get through – I also send emails to my cousin in Aus and she still hasn’t got her’s yet. Just read your blog so I know/hope you got the text I sent. We had a meal with Pete and Lisa last weekend which was fantastic and a certain person didn’t get plastered and embarrassing.
Bekki is in Tanzania and seems to be having a great time, she has been quite home sick that’s obvious from the emails and text we have had. She is looking forward to a cup of tea and a bacon toastie on Sunday. At the moment she is at Zanzibar beach relaxing.
Kirstie passed her driving test and hasn’t been home since, it’s so weird to see her driving off. When she got home after passing she was on cloud 9 and was whooping and screaming – all that stopped when she tried to get insurance, while she was a provisional driver it was £500 but once she had passed the same company wanted to charge her £2,400:00, she went very pale. We’ve found 1 that is £1,240:00 still a lot but better.
Dave is working away as usual mostly in Wimbledon. He has been drafted in to work with Ofsted don’t know how he will get on with education he’s not very enthusiastic. He has been asked to talk at an international conference in September it’s a great honour. It is being held in Texas and I can’t get any time off work – gutted.
I’m on week 3 of my holiday and am enjoying it. The weather could be better. My veggies are growing and we have had some to eat – if you decide to grow any don’t grow peas. The ‘harvest’ is small. From my 3 plants we have about 40 peas - 10 each. Lots of tomatoes, courgettes, spring onions, potatoes, carrots and red onions though. I also have a Jerusalem finger fruit plant, it’s like a pumpkin plant – a squash – it looks really weird. I can’t describe it, do look it up on the net. Yesterday and today are warm and sunny so maybe things will change.
Matt and Anne went away with Sarah and Lee to ‘Soul Survivor’. It’s a Christian retreat and Sarah took the Youth group from church, I think there was about 10 youths. Matt went so that he could finish his Duke of Edinburgh Gold award. He didn’t connect with God. It was very happy clappy with people running up to the front shouting things like ‘I believe’ ‘Can you feel God’ ‘I can feel God’ etc.
Sorry to hear Annie’s been ill. Hope she’s better. Lots of people here have swine flu but no-one seems to be panicking, people aren’t being tested anymore it’s all being done over the phone and people have to have a flu buddy, someone who will pick up prescriptions. The news are saying that it will get worse in the Autumn. What I love are the ad’s with a list of high risk people and guess what….. diabetics are on there. What a surprise.
Glad you made it through the fondue although I would like to see some evidence. Can you believe you’ve been gone nearly 3 months, doesn’t it fly?
Well must go got more lounging about to do
